Close to MS but I see rub on Gen. Jackson's hat, glove, coat, leg. Looks like the eagle's breast has some rub as well. AU-58 slider. Great looking luster and eye appeal.

May have circulated briefly, or perhaps it was just mishandled by the original owner over many years.

I think IGE has got it right.

Most of the high spots have been mentioned. Also the rein to General Lee's horse is a high spot and goes away quickly.

The obverse look more like a softer strike to me so, MS. But, the reverse looks AU55. IGE had great answers on the grading of this coin. Put up another picture of the reverse from a tilted angle.

I am glad I saw this, as I occasionally come across one but never knew how to grade them . Thanks.

This is a seriously common classic silver commemorative - albeit most of the remaining examples are not as lovely as your likely AU55/58 coins. The rub on the high points is noted above - and do indeed concur this is a visually attractive example of a well beloved coin. Quote: I am wondering if I should submit this coin for grading. That depends entirely on you and your collecting objective. It makes no financial sense given the TPG grading costs versus the coins market value - but that has never stopped anyone who had other objectives.

Quote: but that has never stopped anyone who had other objectives I've slabbed a small number of coins so my kids have a heads-up after I'm gone that "this is something special". Makes it easier to liquidate, too. Hope they notice!
