I found a normal recent-date British penny on the floor of my local supermarket this afternoon. The huge increase in card and digital payments since the Pandemic has made finding any coins quite a rate event!

i second that. actually, that's been on my mind for a long while. my monthly coin-find totals have been lower than average for many months. I thought to myself a long time ago that if my finds no longer meet or exceed $1 a day it wouldn't really be worth my time to continue this nightly endeavor. I examine my crude notes and I see I am just about at that point. tonight's the last night of the month; I need to scratch up $2.54 to make $31 for the month and that is not likely going to happen.

i have one reason to continue: I am very close to a full ounce of gold attributed to street finds. how much gold have I acquired via street finds? so far:

one 1853 quarter eagle,
five 1/10oz AGEs,
nine 1 gram bars

doing the math, it looks to me like I'm in the neighborhood of 0.91 Troy ounces. another 1/10oz AGE ought to do it or be close enough to make me happy.

cycle 17 began in late february, running total currently at $199.96. yep, if I find four cents tonight I will achieve an important psychological marker: the $200-mark. that means I am roughly 2/3 of the way to that next 1/10oz AGE. monthly finds trundling around the $30-mark means that I have 3 to 4 more months of pickin' to hit the $300-mark. of course the more I find, the faster I get there... and the more FRNs I find, the faster I get there. that could be a tall order now that a predicted overactive hurricane season is about to begin. 3 to 4 more months of pickin'-- without any huge scores-- takes me to september. by then, black friday will be just 2 months away. I want to turn in my street money on black friday. it'd be nice to get at least a little discounted bullion, whether it's a 1/10oz AGE (or similar) or 1g bars. it doesn't really matter to me. whichever. as long as I achieve that full ounce.

I'm not stopping until I achieve that full ounce of gold. I am determined. it could happen this year.

...but I will still feed the cats if I give up pickin'.

OK, thats it - I'm going to have to start searching in your area... (who tosses out gold anyway?)

Today I had an interesting find: at the physics building, someone had apparently inserted a dollar into the vending machine and then walked away because it said "$1.00 Cash Inserted". I hit "cancel" and got four laundry tokens (quarters) from that.

Sad part is, I graduated about three weeks ago and will soon be leaving this wonderful city where the streets are paved with quarters and pennies... hopefully my next home city is decent too for what it's worth. I still haven't seen any 2024 coins yet though; must take forever for them to work their way up here, even though I'm so close to a Federal Reserve branch in Chicago.

congratulations! well done! and thanks for posting those pix. I've received a silver quarter in change, but never have I picked one off the street. dimes- yes, twice, but no quarters.

here's hoping you end up in a place where ppl discard as much (or more) cash & coin as where you are now.

i might have to start calling her Karma. we walked right up to a wild buck that was snoozing on the cement drive. same kitty, same place as a few nights ago, and almost exactly the same time each night: 1:05am and 1:08am, resp., curiously enough.

$1.35 tonight, a dollar, a quarter, two nickels and no zincolns!!

...and, I guess as a 'bonus', I found a publix bag (from their liquor store) near an ice machine toward the end of the route with 5 cans of Lite beer; 4 tall cans and 1 regular-size, which I quickly snatched up and plunked into my bike basket, and then I called it a night and pedaled for home... which reminds me: I don't think I mentioned this last week, but I found 5 tall cans of Michelob Ultra (still in the cardboard case) while I was doing yard work last sunday, a week ago. sometime before I arrived someone dropped them over the fence into the front yard, hard to say exactly when or why, but they had only been there a couple days, max. so I've scored ten cans of beer between two consecutive sundays, lol... I give any canned/bottled beverages that I don't drink (like beer, alcohol, soda, etc.) to a neighbor buddy. I gave him the 5 Michelobs last week and he'll get tonight's Lite beer bounty, as well.
