Fantastic, MrPink! I'm having trouble envisioning the chain of cluelessness leading to that '59 dime being there for you to rescue.

It certainly is. but then most folks don't really 'look' at their money before spending or discarding it.

yep... and I get the impression that even if they do look at their coins most people don't know what they're looking at. I still encounter people who think the sacagawea & Presidential dollar coins are gold coins. most people cannot tell the difference between a silver dime or quarter and a clad coin. they seem to not care anyway, so... okay, great, that leaves more for us to find. i'll be carrying on with my little enterprise, capitalizing on the fiscal imprudence & numismatic ignorance of others. I'm quick to point things out to people, but most just shrug it off. I am very happy that I have the knowledge, there is still so much to be found in the wild.

once again I pick a 1948 Jefferson nickel from somewhere. this poor specimen... the obverse is cratered, like a lunar landscape, but the reverse isn't too bad:

I picked a '48-D jeffie on may 3rd and a '48 LWC june 16th, curiously..
