i had my best night since august 27 ($2.57), picking a well-scattered $1.82. august 27 was also the last night I scored a dollar or more. it's been two weeks of very slim pickins. tonight's exceptionally outstanding total was partly due to this untidy pile of dirty coins-- --around eighty cents total, several each of zincolns, nickels and dimes:

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money

tonight's entire haul got a bath in the kitchen sink once I was home.

the running total topped the $290-mark over the weekend, now it's the slow crawl to $300 during summer's last blast of excessive heat & high humidity.

i'll probably start preparing the cauldron soon. normally i'd wait until closer to black friday to begin cauldron preps, but I want it ready to go much sooner than that, just in case I have to do the conversion sooner than the end of november.

I'm sorry, I don't have any photos. I guess you'll have to take my word for this story.

It was 1965 or 1966, which would put my age at 11 to 12. My mother worked at a snack bar in the local bowling alley, which was about a mile from my school. It wasn't unusual for me to walk to the bowling alley when I got out of school, before walking home. I walked a lot back then!

Anyway, just before reaching the bowling alley I spotted a Dollar bill in the ditch! Cool! Most of my spending money back then came from collecting discarded deposit soda bottles for a Nickel apiece. A whole Dollar? Due to inflation that's the equivalent of $10 today.

I excitedly continued to show it to my working mom. A lady customer seated at the counter piped up that I should go back and find another one.
And I DID. I went back to the 'scene of the crime' and looked a bit harder and found another Dollar Bill. $2 in a few minutes was an incredible find and I'll never forget it. Wow, that's like finding a stash of 40 deposit bottles.

I spent that $2 all in one place at a Five & Dime, and bought a simple camera for $1.99 + tax. I've still got some of the photos I took with that camera and some of them turned out pretty well, considering.

These $1.99 camera clicks in lieu of photos of the Notes.

I used that camera for a few years Dearborn. I might've been 13 when I took some of those.

Nice haul, MrPink - get that cauldron fired up!
Excellent story and pics, Vector Ze! They remind me of places where I grew up in Louisiana.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Great stories all!

Like Mr. Pink, the daily finds are getting pretty bad. Yes you have a great day every once a year but overall MEH!

But still I keep looking.

Vector Ze, thanks for sharing that. I especially like the pic of the cat on the car... is that an old station wagon-type of car?

i could write a long essay re: dwindling finds, but not right now... i'll just say that it's not what it used to be and I think it's winding down. regardless, this 6-1/2 year experiment has been a success overall. i'll talk about it more after the next conversion, whenever it happens. still aiming for black friday, but it could happen sooner.

i guess my griping yesterday stirred the muses into seeing that I snag my 19th wild buck of the year (and the first one this month). I walked past it once and failed to spot it because I had kitties trying hard to 'help me walk my bike'. I spotted the buck after kitties were fed and as I was leaving. I also picked up a quarter in the same area. I didn't find a lot of change tonight, just seventy-two cents, and after I scored the buck I rode for home, walked in at 1:50am, I wasn't out there very long tonight, just barely an hour. so $1.72 tonight, my first back-to-back $1+ nights since august 11 & 12 ($1.64 & $1.54, resp.), and that was the only time in august that I had back-to-back $1+ nights.

...and this is curious... august 11 & 12 I scored $1.64 & $1.54, the $1.54 is ten cents fewer than $1.64... well, tonight I picked $1.72, ten cents fewer than last night's $1.82...

...if that's not curious enough, those back-to-back $1+ nights last month occurred at the moon's first quarter phase. the first quarter phase this month is wednesday.

Thanks, MrPink2018
Yes, that was a Dodge station wagon. I don't know the model.
I was one of six kids. Our family of eight moved from Texas to Florida in the light blue 'beauty', one of my favorites among my parents' cars in the 1960s, heh!
