Here's a nice Trade dollar that I have, but there's an area under the liberty figure's foot that is not "filled in." What is that?

Looks like a planchet flaw. Please show photo of reverse.

I have some concerns about the coin being genuine because of lack of details.

Genuine Example:

OP Example:
1877-S-Trade-Dollar-With-Defect?

Here are my concerns about OP coin mushy details:

1) There is no detail in bench that liberty is sitting on as the bricks are flat. The genuine example has a lot of details in the bricks.
2) The foot and hand in on OP coin look off.
3) The rug above the foot has no details in OP coin
4) The bottom of wheat bushel is off on OP coin.
5) Liberty dress lacks details.

Thanks for having a look, Slider. Some of the details were washed out as I turned the coin in the light to accentuate the flaw, since that was my main question. I can probably get better coin details tomorrow with natural light.

I know this is a wacky theory, but if that's the natural color, I wonder if ink was spilled on it and ate into the surface. Iron gall ink is acidic and was widely used into the 20th century, so if the coin sat in a desk... First thing I thought of when seeing the blue-ish color embedded in the crevices. Have no idea what old ink did to silver.

I don't know about genuine or not in this case, but it is interesting. Hopefully, a consensus can be formed.

kbbpll's theory is interesting. I've never seen anything quite like this.

No additional photos yet, but the coin is non-magnetic and weight is between 27 and 27.5 grams (my scale is only accurate to a half gram).

Your second photo of the obverse does show the details much better and makes the wear on the coin look natural.
