Hey guys, I see some great coins on ebay but the seller is part of global shipping program ( Pitney Bowes ) The shipping per coin is 20 Canadian plus import charges and the seller does combine shipping but at the discretion or program offered by the GSP. Anyone has experience with sellers that are part of this program? Any input is appreciated

My wife recently made some non coin ebay purchases that came with that on the package. No problems.

I just see it that the coin price is out of this world once everything is added with the global shipping program.

there is nothing I want bad enough to purchase from any seller using the gsp, I have contacted a seller before to see if they can mail the item by regular mail, and have had limited success. Also a lot of usa sellers are not even aware they are enrolled in the program..

Quote: Also a lot of usa sellers are not even aware they are enrolled in the program.. It's true. When they first started it they auto enrolled everyone and you had to go into the settings to opt out. I would like it a lot better if they would let you pick what countries you use it for. Great Britain, Australia, Canada, France, Germany and a few others are fine to ship too, but like Africa/South America I would only sell there if ebay is the one that has to worry about the shipping.

Good point! I don't think it's a problem the safe arrival of any coin from Canada to USA or USA to Canada. I can understand the safe delivery of a coin in Nigeria ( example ) is best trusted through this Global Shipping Program, otherwise I find this program to be a rip off.

I'm an ebay seller, but mostly for low value items. I would NEVER use this program.

So after playing around with it after this thread apparently they have made some changes. It does appear you can set countries which you will ship to yourself and then let the global shipping program just cover the countries you would never ship to on your own. I set it up to try that so hopefully it will work like it said it will

I recently bought something from a seller that was part of this. Fortunately the auction price was low enough that it was still a fair price in the end. Unfortunately it seems that most items I look at that are from US-based sellers are part of this program. This results in $20 shipping and $10-20 of duty charges. This eliminates most items I look at and therefore have to rely on primarily Canadian-based sellers to have what I'm looking for.

True true, I personally move away from those sellers because it is not worth it. The coin prices are drastically increased just from that program. I think its a rip-off!

I hope sellers realize that and opt out. I am sure this program is worth it for different items but not for coins!

The Global Shipping Program is effectively a Global Sales Prevention Program for low value items. I am not going to pay shipping costs that exceed the cost
Has anyone ever asked sellers if they would be willing to consider regular shipping instead?

I have and they have been reluctant to use another method and thank you for making a good point. I told the seller how can it be resonable for the shipping to be more expensive than the actual coin. They say sorry ebay does the combine shipping based on the global shipping rate which has been absurd. Just move on to the next guy and forget the coin.

@coin-flipper, that is, unfortunately, what I suspected. The global market is just not large enough enough for them to be bothered. Fortunately, at least, the limiting factor for me is money, not the availability of merchandise, so I will just keep looking.

Quote: The global market is just not large enough enough for them to be bothered. What it really is is just that low value items aren't worth shipping internationally. If the buyer wants to pay for shipping almost all sellers will ship it to a country like Canada. As soon as a buyer wants shipping without tracking though that's a no go. Anything without tracking all you have to say is you never got it and 100 percent of the time ebay will refund the buyer. Due to global shipping agreements the US has one of if not the most expensive global shipping costs. Paying 25-30 USD for US shipping isn't something most buyers want to do on low value items and sellers aren't interested in paying money to hope the buyer is honest

the biggest problem, is most usa sellers, don't even know they are enrolled in the gsp system.. ebay did it and didn't tell the seller's they were opted in to it.. only through talking to sellers, did they even realize this was happening.. most usa sellers can ship something to canada tracked for 10$.. not the 20$ gsp charges..
