I came across this coin, I think it looks stunning!...non traditional photo style - I kind of dig it. Before I attempt to purchase, just wanted to check in on your thoughts: Grade and Originality

Is this coin legit (i.e., original)? Is this coin clearly MS territory? How to discern which MS? My grading skills in that territory are nascent. Thanks for your help!

Your photos are too blurry for proper evaluation . From what I can see the coin has a few minor issues .

Thanks John1. I have the Photograde App on my iPhone and I study the Mercury dime grading on it often. I still have trouble discerning the nuanced differences in upper AU and lower MS grades. Have you ever noticed that the grade designations PCGS provides on its slabs aren't even consistent with Photograde half the time! Can you help at all on this coin?

These are the seller's photos, the only ones available. Can you at least guess at a grade (and originality)? Thanks.

I agree that these Photograde photos in upper grades are difficult to differentiate between one other: especially the 64 - 69 range.

It would be helpful to bounce one's opinion after viewing Photograde with another site that 'clearly' shows the nuances between these higher grade specimens with definitive close-up shots.

Any suggestions insofar as where to go would be nice to have as another reference.

Rest in Peace

If you really need to know a grade on this coin with inferior photos ,then the best I can come up with is MS-62 . I've looked at these pics a dozen times and I just don't see any wear , just a mishandled unc.
Some might make a call of AU-58+ .

I am not good at grading so I won't. You will however have to post the best quality pics as you can for members to help you with a grade.

Thanks John1. Yes, of course, ideally one would always do that when possible. In my case here, I am looking at a coin to purchase and I don't necessarily want to request better photos as this would then provide all potential buyers with better photos. These unorthodox photos may actually be disuading others from bidding; and so far bidding has indeed been stagnant for some reason.

My impression was we are likely somewhete into MS territory and I just wanted others more kbowledgeable on the nuances of MS variations to weigh in.

I should have been more clear that these were the best available photos.

Thanks so much T-BOP! I'll keep you all posted as it ends this evening.

If you don't own it, treat it as an AU-58.

If the price is right, and seller offer return, then I would take a stab at it.

The detail in AU 58 and low MS is too minute.

Far from Mint state/stunning with that big glob of goo on the reverse at 4:00 and another at 8:00. Even shows evidence of somebody trying to remove the goo. The best way to learn mint state from sliders is from a dealer you trust or go to lots on them at a coin show.

well, I got down through macmercury and then pulled the trigger, feeling good abt this coin being legit. I assumed AU58 graysheet as my max bid but it ended no where near. Thankfully I got it at $29 shipped, cause these last 2 comments suggest a much diminished appeal. I'll be sure to post my own photos and I'm hopeful we can better discern any evidence of whizzing, xf grade, rim dings, and goo globs. Thank you!
