I'm a newb, but it appears to be a proof quality strike with a Denver mark. Are there any other examples of this around? Would like to post a pic but it's not exactly easy on this site.

Right. A proof from the Denver Mint is not possible, especially now. The process of uploading pics is not that laborious. Take a few minutes to address it.

A 2016 Denver dime looks nothing like a proof 2016-S. The proof coins are frosted:

Here are a few pics of the coin. In the third photo it is the coin underneath. The coin on top is a regular 16d dime. What is the finish type on the coin below?

Did you note the frosting on the image I posted. Without this (for this year) it is not a proof coin. Shiny coins are not proof coins. They are struck differently with a limited number of strikes. The fields are shiny like chrome. Just not the same thing at all.

The Denver Mint switched from vertical Bliss coining presses to horizontal strike Schuler coining presses at the end of 2005. Many of the business strike coins from the Schuler presses exhibit smooth fields and mirror surfaces. They are beautiful coins, but only business strikes.

That is just a normal business strike coin. Proof coins were minted with an S MM, as well as they have a mirror like field with a frosty look to the coin. Mr. Coops pictures should sum it up! Happy hunting and happy New Years!

Yes I noticed your post COOP. perhaps the pictures don't do it justice, but I have to work with the tools I have. The entire coin looks to me (rookie) to be the same type finish as a proof coin would be on the relief. This coin has that same finish in both the relief and in the fields.

Thank you all for all your help

It looks normal to me, but if you need comparison, buy a 2016-S Proof dime and compare it to what you have. I think you will find many differences. They are not expensive:
