I'm very new to colonial coins. Have a few Fugio's and Nova's. Just bought a Fugio on ebay and it has me nervous. Can someone tell me if this is common or not. I'll include a picture.

I was rotating the picture before to try and see the strike better and left it sideways. Here is a shot of it upside down to see the sun better.

Anyone have an idea on this coin?

to CCF!!

That's a really nice Fugio. 4 Cinquefoils / Pointed Rays / UNITED STATES. "N" and "U" in MIND line up, so this (should be) Newman 8-B.

It should weigh around 11.5 grams. I would grade it VG.

I believe what you are seeing is severe die clash, but this one is much stronger than I have seen on most 8-B's.

On the reverse, at about 6 o'clock, you can see the rays from the obverse, and directly opposite, at 12 o'clock, the exergue line from the obverse. The obverse legend is clearly visible through the chain links on the reverse. This is logical, since the obverse die clash impression is in medallic orientation, and the reverse die strike is 180 degrees rotated (coin orientation.)

Have you ever seen one before like this? Like I said, I'm new to colonial coins and have a LOT to learn about them.

Google "1787 Fugio Newman 8-B" and look for images from Heritage Auctions, NGC, etc.

I just looked up die clash, very interesting. Sounds logical as well. Of all the Fugio's I've looked at in the last 5 months, I've never seen one with die clash before. Hmmmm ...

I did as you suggested and found quite a few with die clash. But yes, none quite as strong.

@SK, first welcome to CCF. Second, I have taken the liberty of enlarging and enhancing your image to bring out the die clash even better:

Very cool, and thank you.
I think I'll put this one on display in my den. Now, I just need to find a great looking display for it. :)
