Looks to be a lamination. Common on the 40's nickels. Still, it's a mint error, and it's an okay size. Happy hunting!

It is a lamination flaw, or lam. It's nice, but not very dramatic, so it's more a curiosity than anything else. I would keep it. See here and explore:

In your case, the flaw has not resulted in any coin metal falling off, but the crack, or fault line as I view them, is there and it could separate more with a bit of assistance.
