My wife's Aunt died last November. They were close, very close. She had no kids so she left everything to my wife. We were at her house in Arkansas last week going through things, figuring out what to do with stuff and I was looking through her deceased husband's office file cabinets and found some coins. I don't think he was a collector but just had merely held onto coins throughout his life.

Along with this were a about 70-80 wheat cents and 40-50 40's and 50's jeffersons. Some Canadian coins as well but are all relatively newer coins. I'll probably give some of these to my son, he's 9, but I'll hold onto the good ones.

matt242 Nice collection!
We're going to need better pics of the individual coins in the appropriate forums, especially that first Morgan dollar!

It's definitely not a CC Morgan, first thing I looked for. How awesome would that have been. I was mostly just posting to show what I had found lying around and since there were a combination of coins I put it here. The Morgans are 1885 O and 1879 S.

But I did get 180 of the Silver American Eagles so that was nice.

In the 50's nickels, I suggest you look for a 1950-D. It's a key date and can bring a few extra bucks. Nice finds! Happy hunting!

Thanks for the heads up. Only nickels I have ever collected are Buffalo's. Maybe I'll get my Jefferson's going.

@matt242 - thats a nice haul! I remember finding envelopes filled with Mercury dimes in my grandafather's dresser. There were over 200 of them - everyone was AU/BU, but I was young and traded them for lesser things. I try not to think of my mistake!

OMG I love Mercury dimes. I don't know what I'd do if I traded away AU/BU Mercury dimes.

For the Jefferson nickels, look for '42-'45 War Nickels, as well. That's a nice catch.

I found one 1943 so not bad. Of the 50's they are almost all '54-57. Must have been big years.

Pics are too small. Look for the better dates and better conditions. If you are into errors and varieties look for those. This might be a good opportunity to get your son into coin collecting. Get a Red Book for the info in it not the values. Get a few folders to get your collections started. I started collecting when I was 9,I just turned 56

Sorry for your wife's loss. Aunt's are special people that we can really appreciate.

That's a nice "little" surprise.
Are those Walkers or American silver Eagles in the last image?
(Can't make out the dates.)

Values are minimal, the best items are the silver eagles. Fortunately you say you got 180 of those.

Zooming in, it looks like the dates are 1986 and 1990.
