Some change I received several weeks ago contained a quarter coin with an unusual flaw. In the attached pictures you can see where the G of God is imprinted on top of the random metal mounding up on the surface of the face side. Was this caused by a defective area on the strip that the planchet was stamped from?
Looks like heat damage. Bubble formed, expanded, and the collapsed. But since the metal has stretched it can't collapse back down into its original shape and position.
