While looking through some nickels I have this 1941 P nickel and while it is just a plain nickel I noticed something different about it. The last S in STATES has a different font. So, I pulled out a few 1939 P nickels to compare. Every 1940 P nickel that I have has a raised top on the S, except this one. For comparisons sake I am posting two pics of a 1939 P nickel. The first and third pics are the 1940 P nickel, the second and fourth pics are of the 1939 P nickel. Am I just seeing things?

We recently covered this:

Reverses of 38 and 40 were used on the 1939 nickels.

Yes sir, we did. The 1939 in the pic has the reverse of the 1938, the 1941 looks as though it has the same reverse as the 1938. In all fairness it is probably just wear on the 41 but the similarities are there.

Does the steps area show the same as the 1940 reverses?

It should. But you are probably correct to assume die wear.
