I've been trying to crack this coin. Maybe it's just damaged ?

Agree , the Quarter looks like intentional graffiti . The Lincoln is environmental damage .

I'm sorry I was referring to the first r in the word quarter. It appears to have been somehow cut and moved over just a bit on the leg.

Ah ok yes. For the first R in QUARTER, I see scratches and surface staining. Here is an enlarged and enhanced view of this area. Sorry but I still think that this coin is a spender.
