I've tried all the searches I can think of and I'm also not much of a variety coin collector. I collect Jefferson nickels, US cents, flying eagles, Indian Heads... casino tokens and chips.

I'm just wondering if this is some far out old coin that someone wore as a charm or if anyone can help me at all. Not drilled, punched.

Says Jame? on one side and New-York on the other. Hardly anything else to identify.

Thanks much.

The type of punch looks to be very old. Like 1800'S . What's the diameter size ? About the same as a modern cent ? No reeding on edge of course correct ?

Thanks for asking what I should have had in the first post. The original images are closest to the color, like a copper US cent.

Thickness is about .90, although looking at the edge it could be compressed.I hope this displays well?

Diameter was slightly over 20mm, again, maybe because of age. It's pretty beat.

Macro photos of both sides, better lighting, more letters show.

If that's Jami as in Jamica, why New-York? Top of that side "...BROs" And I'm not sure if the folded edge is just from age and being pressed? Anyone recognize that as a cause for the groove instead of reeding?

Thanks for the idea. For a smashed, punched old coin, all this isn't very valuable, just a hunt for what it was. I was hoping that someone who knows old coins could have recognized it.

@pporro, sorry for the late reply. I note that there is at least one type of copper store card with "NEW-YORK" on the bottom, a wreath in the middle, stars on the sides, and "BROs" on the top. If you are still chasing down an attribution for this interesting piece, perhaps start with Broas Brothers as you search in tokencatalogcom. Also, I'm planning to move this thread over to our Tokens subforum so that perhaps we can get some more eyeballs on it.

Amazing sleuthing and thanks for the answer. You found the solution to my coin jar mystery. Broas Brothers / New - York. I'm fairly sure the James is benJAMIne Franklin.

OK it's a really, worn and mashed coin, goes on the good luck necklace, because it's not worth anything else. It came with the hole punched in it, not drilled.

Ok yes, I'm trying to clear out some of the thousands of solved thread that we have over in the unidentified subforum, but occasionally find one that feels like we still could add something. Glad to help!
