Nothing on it (in English) indicates that it is made from silver. My guess? that it may be of silver, perhaps 500 fine, or even silver plated copper nickel.

Does it have an edge inscription?

Yes it says 999 @sel, but they hid it in the design a little bit. I wasn't aware of these things being made from anything other than base metal recently.

I'm with you now!
I have also seen square temple tokens, in the style of Mughal rupees.

Big market for these in India as special occasion gifts. They frequently bear the name of the manufacturing jeweller.
