@skippy72, I think that a better close-up pic is needed to confirm what you think that you are seeing with the coin in hand.

I don't see any evidence from the images provided. The 'S' mint mark is used on proof coins at that time. This is not a proof die. So why would it has that mint mark? More likely it is die wear that your seeing.

The die is showing a lot of wear. Even the date digits are walking towards the rim direction.

That is a stain. Note how the date is raised. That area is not. If it looked like the Mona Lisa It still was not struck onto the coin. The design is on the die, the die strikes the coin. Circulation happens and alters the coin. It didn't happen during the strike. Note the lines coming from the loop of the 'P'? That is on the die die. It is called a die flow line or it maybe a die gouge. In order for this to appear on this coin and every coin after the this coin, it would have to be an incuse mark on the die to leave a raised area on the coin. (dies are a negative of a coin. Incuse on the die, raised on the coin) That line proves to me that the die is aging. Thus event happen, but they leave a raised area on the coins. You just seeing a flat surface area on the coin. So it is on the coin and not a die issue. They eyes/brain play tricks on people.
