I just finished my Circulated Jefferson nickel set. I finally ran across the 2008 P. I knew it would show up sooner or later. In total I went through around 25 boxes. This set has sort of been pulled from circulation. I bought the 39D ($.50) and 50D ($10). I did some 1 for 1 trades on the War Nickels as I found a ton of 43P's but not many of the others. I'm pleased with the outcome. I'm really surprised at how good of shape several of these are in. All said and done this set is comprised of 163 coins that cost me a total of $18.55. That averages out to just a little over 11 cents per coin. Here are some pics... Each image is linked to a larger version. The images here are around 50k. The one's they're linked to are in the 1.2-1.5 MB range.

Beautiful set! Congrats! Some of those War Nickels are in very nice condition. I've just about got my set of circ Jeffs completed (just need a half a dozen more...and none of them key dates)...I'll be posting pics too =)

I love the Jefferson series, because they're about the only coins you will find circulating from the 1930's and 40's. I still find nickels from those decades and I always get a kick out of it.

It took me around 25 boxes to put this together... (I didn't really keep track.) I've got 4 other semi completed sets together, one's just missing the keys. The other three are in various stages of completion. I found the 39-D in the bargain box. The dealer I usually go to isn't that concerned about his inventory. I'm willing to bet that that nickel had been in the bargain box for 10 years. 10 years ago that was probably a fair price for the coin. (I also picked up 15 39-S nickels for a quarter each out of the same box. The nice War Nickels were ones that I actually found in circulation. The nasty ones are ones that I traded for. I've found around 15 or 20 War Nickels total, but I'm guessing 80% of them were 43P.

Great job there. However, now that the set is completed you do not have the urge to continue so here is my solution. Send that set to me and start over again. See how thoughtful I am about your peice of mind.

Nice job! What's next?
I'm two nickels (38D, 43D) from completing my set entirely from circulation, 330,000+ nickels searched.

To be honest I wasn't even really "working" on the nickel set. In general my "real sets" of moderns are uncirculated.. I just kind of enjoy roll hunting nickels... This circulated set just kind of completed itself. Were you to have asked me "What sets are you working on?" I would have answered MS63+ roosies. That's what I'm still working on... As far as circulated sets go, I think I've started on a Barber Half set. I've picked up 8 of them so far... all 8 of those have mintages of under 1 million though. Would probably look good sitting next to my Barber dime set.

Very nice set! I bet it was alot of fun to put together. Have you put circulated sets of any other denomination together?
