Found this 1988 D nickel. I'm guessing LDS or VLDS. Maybe MD as well? All input is welcome. Experience(the gurus in the Community) is the best teacher. Asking is the best learning method. Thanks mucho. Kokomo

Your coin is in Mid Die State. You also have some Machine Doubling and a Broken Post Die Chip on the "B" of "LIBERTY".

The coin doesn't appear to be LDS at all. The mintmark is damaged (flattened). The B in LIBERTY looks to have a die chip in the upper loop. The TS of CENTS looks weird, but may be MD.

Kokomo, when I first starting to collect a really good guy on this forum gave me this advice, read as many posts as you can when someone has a question. After reading the advice from others will go a long way when you find something similar. You'll recognize more on your own that way. It helped me out a lot.

More in the VLDS die range at this point. At this point the Machine Doubling and sever die wear is taking over. While the coin would make a good hole filler, the closeup look reveals a lot more. Note the die wear is even making the 'L' on LIBERTY show a wave towards the rim direction.

Jim0815:
I spend a lot of time reading the posts, not just an occasional glance or two. Have only been at this about three-four months now and am trying to learn and not ask unnecessary or 'stoopid(different than 'stupid')' questions. I read all manner of online material, however, as much as I try to retain information, the cogs in in the think-tank tend to get mis-aligned and and make for 'errors'. I learn quickly bu forget frequently. I appreciate all the input I can get. Tanx mucho.
p.s. two out of three ain't bad ya know

Coop:
Thanks for seeing things I didn't. Planned on it being a hole filler for future reference.
