I realize there are special 1955 cents out there, but am not thinking this is one of those. Was just curious what it IS? The things I noticed are the area around the last 5 is raised in the outline of a 5 as well, there is doubling along the top of all the letters in the words in god we trust, a raised bump of cooper in between the words ONE and CENT, and there is a lump of extra copper on the back in above the I and B in pluribus.

thanks for looking
malissa

What you notice at the 5 is on most 1955 cents. You will sometimes see this promoted as the poor man's double die. It is very common and should not bring a premium. I think the other things you see are die chips. Again very common in wheat cents.

What you are seeing on the date is call Die Deterioration Doubling, which is very common on the 1955 Lincoln Cent. If you look at the 1953 Lincoln Cent, you will see more than a few with the same characteristics.

The cause was simple; over used dies. The reason for the seemingly overenthusiastic popularity of this natural occurrence as the die ages is its very faint resemblance to the real 1955 doubled die, thus the name "poor man's double die".
