Nope, not a minting error, damage caused by the machine that rolls the pennies in the paper wrappers, this one was on the end and got scratched up like that

 Unfortunately it is just damage, not a mint error.

I wish they would make that part of the machine out of Teflon . Then maybe that will solve that problem . I have many Lincolns from OBW rolls that were damaged by rolling machines .

Another reason not to like plated coins. ... sure, the rolling equipment would mar a brass or bronze alloy coin too, but a plated coin with that damage is doomed to rot... what a waste.
