Appears to be perhaps a Struck Through Swab on the Obverse? I found this coin in pocket change. I also tried to get the best angles of the coin. The photographs of the Struck Through swab head are crater like in appearance and not a stain. The edges of the swab head outline are raised and have a perfect oval appearance. The Struck Through Lines near "In God We Trust" appears to be from the slim straight body of the swab. Struck Through actually traveled over the rim at all locations. Tried to re-enact the swab positioning on one photograph by bending a swab different angles to try and match it up as an example. The swab could have been completely different and the straight portion of the body could have been made of plastic, insulation or wood? Maybe I am way off and it was something else? Struck Through Grease? Any thoughts? Thanks.

That would be quite something @PE! I understand that at least some parts of this region are raised above the surface, but I wonder if it isn't part surface staining and part dried glue or adhesive. I recommend giving this coin a good acetone soak to see if the area loosens up.

Thanks Spence! I will have to get some acetone and give it a soak. I thought it was interesting the way it looked!

It does not look like a struck thru. it looks more like staining on both sides and the as mentioned the raised areas are a dried up liquid substance. I would soak it in hot water first, then give it a Acetone bath.

On the head you can see the wave of the metal pushing away from the head in both directions. This coin is altered.

As said, I would definitely try hot water then acetone to remove any residue. However, the arc seen on the upper left of the reverse makes me think there is something more "damage-like" going on.

I tried the hot water and soaked in acetone and there was no change.

Thanks Spruett001 and Coop for evaluating. I will put it away and label as an altered coin.
