This is the most general message forum that I
see on this site. I hope this is the 'right'
place to post this. It is about Coca-Cola
collectibles. Usually coin collectors also know
about, know people, or are into other collections.
So I thought I would run this by you...

My dad passed recently. He left no insurance or
anything to keep mom 'afloat' financially.
He did, however, leave a house and 2 garages
swimming in his Coke products collection.

The collection in question is in Memphis TN.
The stuff ranges from cheap and small, to very
old and/or very large. He has clocks, bottles,
Coke machines, store front signs, coolers, and
trinkets beyond imagination. Just WAY too much
to list.

My question is: Does anyone here know a collector
of this stuff, or investor in this stuff, that
would be in/around/available to Memphis?

Just for mom's financial sake, I won't just sell
this stuff willy-nilly, OR to the first caller
to peek in on the stuff. So grave robbers, tire
kickers, and cheap seekers need not apply.
I don't think the stuff is worth a fortune, but
we have already had problems with folks trying to
get at this stuff for nothing.

Mom's A/C serviceman came in for mom's bi-annual
A/C upkeep contract, found out dad was gone, and
then tried to get mom to give him Coke machines
in trade for cleaning her condenser!
Grave robbers...
Luckily she called me before going through with
the trade. She was going to, but felt the 'itch'
to give me a quick call about it.

Anyway... any ideas, leads, comments, ect...
Please post away.

Thanks
Dave

Have you considered auction houses? My husband works for pepsi and I am aware that some items can be quite valuable. You could always see if any of the items you have are matched on ebay to get a general idea of the going value for some things. http://www.cocacolaclub.org seems like a site that might be interesting. It charges $90 to join and be a member but you can search recent auctions without joining. Also, I found this site as well while researching our pepsi items and they have a coca- cola listing as well. http://soda-pop-collectibles.com/st...?catid=13600

I hope this helps somewhat. I'm sure with a little research there may be people out there that would buy the entire lot from you for a fair price. Just try to get a general idea of individual value first just to know when someone is giving you a fair deal or not.

I would agree that to sell a sizable collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia, I would seek out a specialist in the field, preferably an acknowledged expert. Before doing that I know there are good references in the field, especially Petretti's (sp.?) price guide, which you can probably get on Amazon and would keep you from having to spend hours on ebay. Also, the best person to ultimately contact would have to be Coca-Cola's own archivist. I'm pretty sure they have a museum and a big archive--I don't know who it is right now, but I'm sure they have a website somewhere. Keep us posted!

I agree with don't just let anyone get their hands on that stuff. Take your time and attept to find a reputable aution type place or person. A well adverised aution of such items is what a professional usually does well.
Rest in Peace

90% of it is junk. Sell it as one lot, and the buyer will figure a price on what he needs and the rest of it goes along for the ride.

You'd think a collector would be your best buyer, but it doesn't work that way. A casual collector isn't going to have the funds, and a serious collector will have most of it. Even if he is willing to pay retail for the items he needs, he'll want to buy the rest cheaply enough to blow off to a dealer, and odds are he doesn't know the top buyer, so he'll lowball even further.

It's real simple. If you want top dollar, you have to piecemeal it, and that means work.

I have a few antique bottles including a circa. 1910 amber straight side with a little lip damage. Last I checked, worth about $100. That's the extent of my Coca-Cola knowledge.
