Am I the only one that suffers from a big case of coin ADD? I started collecting morgans, then I got sidetracked by '21 VAMs. Then I started purchasing various type coins to start a 7070. Not long after that I fell into a nicely established collection of Buffaloes, and have since been focusing on them, all the while still buying the occational Morgan, or Merc, IHC, LHC, etc... And this is just the last 8 or 9 months! I'm all over the place! I think that is why I will like my 7070 when I get it.

I know I had it at one point, but I have finished a lot of sets and am down to a few that keep my focus. I think I am better. I still have to fight off the urge to start something new; there are so many good ideas out there!

MorganNoob, Confession is good for the soul. Now that you've confessed to an emphasis on buff's, you must change your screen name to BuffBoob!

I can relate to that. I started off with Morgans and then moved to Franklins and Jeffersons, then to the 7070 and then to Mercs. Lost interest in the Morgans and have sold some and want to sell the rest. Franklins are almost done, just 3-4 missing but haven't found the right franklins to fill the empty holes. Maybe at the CoinFest in November. Active on the 7070, Jeffs and Mercs. And currently trying so hard to fight the temptation of the Buffalos.
I know... I'm way off with too many sets going.

Does it count if you buy the same coin three different times in a week because you forgot you already did? This is what happens to me because I have a few different sets going at once, luckily I did have other folders for those coins to go into and that they were not expensive.

Quote: Does it count if you buy the same coin three different times in a week because you forgot you already did? As long as you are buy it from me it is ok. Quote: Now that you've confessed to an emphasis on buff's, you must change your screen name to BuffBoob! Oh boy, you are a riot... But hopefully the Buffs will be done soon, and I can return to the Morgans, but I feel the 7070 calling... I also hate thinking that I might miss a good deal on something else, so I have to look at everything, and I usually find something I really don't need, but can't pass up... I actually change around on purpose , its refreshing and keeps the long march to completion from becoming a burnout factor .
I spend weeks or days with one series and then switch to another series and add a few coins at a time to each .
But I never close my eyes while iam looking around ,,I have lists of what I need pinned up on a cork board next to my desk its a quick and easy reference and refer to it often as I'm searching .

I suggest you stop now. Go see a therapist as soon as possible. The reason is you'll never stop collecting coins otherwise. I didn't and I now know I should have stopped a long, long time ago. It's actually a form of an illness I think. As an example I started collecting pennies, cents, as a kid way, way back in the 40's. I now have well over 100 Whitman Classic Albums, 9 of those Whitman Red boxes with two rows of 2x2's and all full, boxes and boxes of Proof sets from as far back as the 50's, uncirc sets the same, boxes of rolls of just about anything ever made. Several boxes of foreign coins that I have no idea where they came from. It is a serious illness this coin collecting thing. STOP while you can or you'll end up like me.

What you're doing is normal. Is in human nature to explore new things. So even if you do love a particular series you will inevitably start wanting to look at and buy different coins. It is still not a bad idea to collect different types of coins at the same time like Metalman said.

One of the problems is that some of these sets would take a Marathon Runner to his/her knees. Jeez. How many thousand coins in a Lincoln or Kennedy set? And with attention spans getting shorter every year, I see year-sets, short sets and various type sets becoming more popular. Heck, if you ask me, in 30 years, the stuff from today that will be popular with be things like the SBA set, SAC set, Ike Set and State Quarters because they have a limited, fixed number of items and can be built in less than 3 lifetimes.

Yeah, I totally have it too. I only recently started collecting coins...what started me off was a few birthday gifts (a 1986 1oz Gold Eagle, 1949 open wreath $1 gold, and a 1908 Indian $2.5 gold). So I started off with Lincoln cents and Walker halves, switched to silver Rosies and Franklins, then jumped over to Jeffersons and most recently my 7070. Now-a-days, I gave up on LMCs...just trying to put a set of wheaties together...I put the Rosies and Franklins on halt, and just trying to finish up the Jefferson (almost done). Still working on the Walker set (slowly) and my 7070...I think working on my 7070 is gonna keep my attention the longest, since I have ADD so bad...lol.

If it was only coins it would be manageable.

I actually did the exact same thing you did with a few exceptions. I started with Morgans and not long after started focusing on1878 VAM's and after doing that for awhile I started my 7070 album and the Morgans went on the back shelf except for the occasional buy of a nice 1878 VAM. I also received a small hoard of coins from my grandfather that I could just about start collecting anything else and have a pretty good start. I am glad I started the 7070 album because I was getting a little burnt out on the Morgans
