I've looked back through several 1973-D LMC's and can't find another without the high E in LIBERTY above the rest of the letters like this. I didn't post Obverse and Reverse photos, because I wasn't sure of this was an oddity or I just didn't have another example without the high E. Dan Edited by Panther 01/26/2019 4:33 pm

Looks like circulation wear and flattening has caused this. See how the "E" is dinged and flattened? That would be Post Strike Damage.
Errers and Varietys.

Doesn't anyone else find it odd that every cent from 1973, the E in LIBERTY is higher than the rest of the letters, regardless of which mint they come from, and I can not find an example without the High E ? If you have one with all letters on the same plane please post it.

So what you are saying is that the high E is normal for the year? John1

I have searched 9 examples from both mints, and they are all the same, HIGH E in LIBERTY. If you have a contrary example please post it so I can stop looking. Or maybe the normal E is RARE. Like I said 9 examples from BOTH Mints and all have high E in LIBERTY. I just took photos of all 9 and will post now.

Can you explain what was the reasoning behind the variation ? I also have one example from San Fransisco, it also has the HIGH E. But so does every other 1973 LMC. Dan

Check out the WE in IGWT from the 1960's era. Check out the FG on the reverse of 1973. John1

1971, 72 had a high B. 1973 hat a high E. 1974 was level all across Liberty.

It's always nice to confirm a suspicion.
I just wonder why they do that type variations. Is it a Die makers signature maybe. What can I put into a Die that will make that Die my own ? Any other guesses or explanations ?

Not sure why the high E, but it is indeed normal for the year.
