If I sent this particular 20 Kroner 'gold' coin to PCGS for a grade & variety check for both the date and hair type, the responses to the following questions would be nice to have before dropping it into the mailbox to PCGS:
1) Would PCGS charge me for two variety attribution fees for the hair and date attribution ck. assuming that the coin is genuine and unaltered or just 'one' attribution fee to cover the investigation of both potential varieties?
2) Could they still charge me for the grading and both attribution fees and send me back the coin un-slabbed based upon the fact that it has been altered?
3) On a slightly different but potentially related subject matter could I expect PCGS and/or NGC to return the coin un-slabbed (even after I paid for the grading and attribution fees) with a 'written' determination of the variety type(s)(if requested in advance) should they opine that original Swedish-minted coin had been intentionally altered...?
I am trying to decide if this coin would be worth sending in as one of the eight coins that I do yearly with PCGS based upon the fact that it would be worth at least $ 125 over spot to justify my time/financial expenditures etc.
My personal cut-off point is that a coin has to be worth at least $ 125 over what I paid for it to cover round trip postage, insurance,
TPG fees and the presence of at least a 10 - 15% profit margin to make it worth it.
