Test notes are generally the BOC wanting to test ink or printing material to seek better quality product, some like the 1986 5 dollar GOGO notes were printed on a sandwiched Luminus poly paper sold for insane price. Other test notes are really dependant on grades and how many are around, there is a 2002 JHS 5 dollar coming to sale that the BOC by mistake exchanged to a reporter at the launch event, but almost for sure it will also attain insane pricing

If you want an other example of test note we can take the S/R 2 dollars 1954 , there is 19 types of S/R and each type is a different combination of type of paper like 75% paper 25% cotton ,or 50% domtar paper 50% traditional paper and so on. At that time they wanted to know witch type of paper has the longest life

- I think its important to note there is a distinction between internal and external test notes: Quote: there is a 2002 JHS 5 dollar -This was an internal test note (sometimes referred to as a "Trial" note/specimen) which was accidentally released into public hands. These are typically much rarer than general circulation test notes. Quote: 986 5 dollar GOGO notes were printed on a sandwiched Luminus poly paper BC-56T are $5 GOG notes (0100000- 0199999) that were released into circulation to test the durability of substrate (similar to the 1954 $2 S/R "Regent" posted). In addition to the entire S/R prefix (with both Beattie/Rasminsky, Bouey/Rasminsky & Lawson/Bouey signature combinations), certain ranges of E/R, G/R & N/R have been discovered as test notes for the 1954 $2. I emphasized certain ranges because a lot of collectors just focus on the prefix and forget that in the cases of the above prefixes- it was only in certain ranges that qualities of the finished note were tested. These notes (as "Regent" explained) were released into circulation to test various ink or paper combinations & generally unknown to be test notes until long after the fact (which is what makes them desirable/collectible). Info about the $5 GOG paper/polymer hybrid note also came long after its release and one example did go for "insane" prices since it happened to be put aside (& was in gem UNC condition I believe). Typically, only certain small ranges of notes are tested in certain denominations. So back to the OP: yes they are worth collecting!

This is technically the first polymer note that was put out into circulation. The person who bought it wanted to have the rights to own that if I am not mistaken (The person was a well-known polymer note collector). Imagine that the sale happened almost 6 years ago. I am wondering if there have been any others up for sale.

Quote: GOGO notes were printed on a sandwiched Luminus poly paper sold for insane price @Regent - From your collection and interest I would not be surprised if you bid on it.
