Looks like a contemporary vise job.
The error is in the attribution.

"THIS COIN IS PERFECTLY ROUND"
The seller should be sent back to high-school geometry class.

I like how they say "This coin is perfectly round"...yet from the picture you can tell that it's not! I see a couple of obvious dings on the rim, not to mention that it looks like someone attacked the obverse with a razor sharp ice cream scoop!
Rest in Peace

An occupational hazard of allowing amateurs to sell stuff.
Rest in Peace

Sent a quick question stating the coin wasn't an error and such. First response was

Quote:
it is perfectly round

Replied saying not to misrepresent errors yada yada
This is the sellers response

Quote:
I AM GLAD THAT SOMONE OT THERE KNOWS EVERY ERROR THAT EVER HAPPENED. YOU SHOULD RENAME YOUR USER NAME AS ERROR PRO

And my Final responce before I blocked them

Quote:
There really is no reason to yell or get upset. I am merely trying to let you know that your
auction is misrepresented to protect you from embarrassment and to protect a new buyer
so they don't spend money on a damaged coin.

There are only a few dozen true errors....so yes I would consider myself an expert and I think
it's childish of you to question that fact with an all CAPS response. Good luck in your auction.
I truly hope someone buys it for the fact that it's old and not an "error"

By the way....it's not perfectly round. Geometry wasn't your strong suit was it?

Error/variety attribution can become a strange business when some "gut feeling" becomes the sole confirming basis for the coin. Others here have said it better, but any error or variety should be first proven as originating at the mint. It should be a clearly definable process and repeatable--ie. seen on other coins.

This particular coin is such an easy call that I find it baffling how the seller must spend hours to get a few bucks. He would do better selling 70-S Lincoln large dates as SDs, lol. Good on your part to attempt to educate the guy.
