Hi my name is Rich, I'm from Pennsylvania and have never done this before. I hope I'm not messing up already. Anyway I haven't been looking for coins very long and think I found something pretty wild and need advice as to what to do next. I found a 1988 penny that looks like it's got the copper plating from the penny before it stamped on top of it. I'm not sure how to put images of it on here but bare with me and I'll try to get it on here. Ok been trying for half hour now. Got to get a little sleep. Will try to figure it out and show you what I found and

If the surface is rough, then was normal and someone added zinc to the surface. Or it could be one that the copper layer was stripped off the coin If the surface is smooth, then it should look like this one and have cartwheels present on it: If it isn't smooth, then it is not an un-plated coin.

Hello everyone and thank you for the kind responses and warm welcomes. The coin in question is definitely a one of a kind. I can't quite figure out how to post pictures yet but I would gladly send it in messenger if anyone would except and then maybe that person could share on here with everyone. Who's in?

Yes I have tried those links. I'm trying to do this from an iPhone 10. Hopefully some time soon I'll get it together. Thanks again

I think I may have finally succeeded in getting an image on here. Having a hard time with iPhone. Let me know if this works. Mean time I'll keep trying to get better at this. About the coin, if you can open it, the whole coin looks like this. There are 2 layers of copper on it. I wish I could get the rest on here. It's truly unbelievable

On the date and devices, that just Post Strike Damage ( PSD) unfortunately. Not a Mint error.

It's been altered. It didn't leave the U.S. Mint that way. It was damaged after it left the U.S. Mint.
