Hello everyone! My name is Mike and I am new to the forum. I just started collecting coins and have this 1966 - P Kennedy half dollar. I am really confused because it looks to be gold plated and am having difficulty finding one similar in my research. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your time!

to the CCF Mike! Can you show us the edge of the coin? If it too is gold colored then it is probably plated. -CH27

Absolutely! Here is a picture of the coin's edge... Thank you CH27!

No problem! Since the edge is the original silver color, it looks to be just toning or environmental coloring/substances. Regardless, you have a 40% silver coin there! Also, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get the coin? -CH27

Awesome! Thank you so much for the info. I am most grateful. My great Aunt passed away earlier this year and my mother gave me some coins that were given to her. This was included in the lot. Thank you again! :)

I remember the first few times I found a gold-plated coin - my heart jumped too!
Nice looking coins, but the microscopic layer of gold adds only a few cents to the value... :(
(BTW: search youtube for gold plating techniques - it's fun to watch)
