I always thought it would be cool to have a type set in grades ranging from AG3 to MS67. Has anyone assembled anything like that?

No, but it sounds like an interesting idea. I would love to see one!

I have thought about it for cent, except I was thinking of picking a date, then buying each of the MS grades, take some good pics of them an compare the differences between them.

I had a set from ms-60through ms-68 of 1878 7Tf morgans but I didn't get any of the lesser grades below Ms-60 because they pretty much wouldn't be worth the slab they were in

Due to the fact I buy every nice 1875 3CN I can find, I have a pretty good set going from F-MS62 with some holes.

This sounds pretty interesting...I guess if there was a coin and/or year that I REALLY REALLY liked I would do a F-MS set...problem is I like so many different coins ... but definitely sounds like a project for the future

I have a Jefferson set from MS/PF 64-69 with only 4 coins missing. and none are key date coins that are missing
is that what you was asking or did I jump into a conversation in the middle. I hate it when the kids do that lol

Years ago I put together a mostly PCGS "Grading Set" that I carry around. I have MS61 to MS66 Morgan dollars (various dates) and it has been somewhat instrumental in determining providing a ball park "grade" for Morgan dollars. Unfortunately, this is still subjective and is not conclusive of a particular coin's grade. Morgan dollars are all over the grading chart as some dates are historically famous for weak strikes, others for luster and others are not the same even in the same grade. Some even change "apparent" condition simply due to die wear ..... thus all MS65s are NOT equal! I have many Morgan dollars that are unquestionally have never circulated and are beautiful coins with hardly a mark on 'em, (MS66 condition coins) but the luster is not there as much as an earlier strike would be.

Anyway, I sold the "set" long ago and now rely on my 45+ years experience, Photograde and other grading guides and knowledge gained, sometimes the hard way, with being in this business.

Regardless, take note: Eye appeal nowadays is everything to a coin's value and wether it rapidly sells or sits in a case for literally years without any takers. So, all my coins nowadays are "eye appealing" - no heavy damage, no spots, no distracting marks and defects.

I read an article once about a set of Lincoln cents that a guy put together. He had 70 samples ranging from AG1 to MS70! That must have taken some time to put together! I'd like to see a picture of that.

At one ANA show one guy had a monster grading set of 1921 Peace dollars. He had separate ANACS, NGC, and PCGS grading sets from PO-01 to MS67. That was quite a sight to behold.
Rest in Peace

Ayone who thinks there's a difference between MS67 and MS66 should buy a dozen MS67, break them out and submit them back to the service they were graded by.
