Comparing it to other examples online, I think it looks nice, but the toning is a bit harsh.

Eye appeal? Possible grade?

In terms of eye appeal, very low. Technical grade is hard to establish with the toning but I see very little wear if any. At least AU. I have seen many of those lower purity silver coins tone very badly.

Would it be a candidate for a dip? I have never done that myself before. The reason I ask is that I picked this up for melt and had a feeling that a nice coin is hiding under there somewhere.

I'm really curious about dipping it too. If you got it for melt you've got a great practice piece.

Are the irregularly shaped black areas pitting? Or are they raised?

If raised, have you tried a solvent for organic stuff? (Goo-Gone or acetone)

As for the underlying condition, it looks like quite a few rim nicks are visible in the photos?

But I agree it could be a good practice piece.
