For quite some times I had been trying to identify a 64D Kennedy DDO with the characteristics of the DDO-003 (which I also have and it is in stage B MDS) but missing all the attributed markers! until I connected with Mr Larry Nienaber during one of the very recent posts here on the Forum and he kindly offered to take a look at the photos and identify it.It turned out to be an unlisted VEDS DDO-003/RPM-006 ( It was at his direction that I enlarged the mintmark ( this time by 30x) and noticed the vertical bar) It was an educational experience for me to realize the difference in the progression of a Die from the very early stage and to see the differences first hand, and wanted to share this with you. Here are the images and the marker for DDO-003/RPM-006 Stage B MDS: Here are the images of the VEDS along with Larry Nienaber's conclusion: Quote: I compared your photos, very good photos, to the three 64D DDO-003/RPM-006 half dollars in my collection...a very early MDS, MDS and a LDS, which all have the CONECA master listed markers. I think all the doubling in your photos match the DDO-003. I think your half is a Stage A VEDS, and if you notice James Wiles has not confirmed a EDS in the listings which might be why your half doesn't show any of the listed markers. When I look at the fields in your photos it looks like the die used was only very lightly polished like around the R in LIBERTY, and not polished at all in the fields around your WE T or above the eagles left arm photos thus proving it to be a very early die state. My conclusion would be, using your photos, your half would be a Stage A (VEDS) 64D DDO-003/RPM-006, with an obverse marker being the die scratches around and inside the R of LIBERTY, and the two die gouge dots on rays 5 and 7 right above the stars between the rays on the reverse. None of these are on my three half dollar.

That's a beauty. Can't believe how clear the doubling is.

Thanks guys, it is a very interesting progression from early stages of a Die to later stages and how it changes.

This one is the correct die, just not the correct die state. The coin is showing a LDS/VLDS die state when your coin was struck. I see they don't have images for the Stage 'B' or 'C'. I'm leaning more towards the stage 'C' from what I can see on your coin. If your coin is BU, you might consider seeing if they would like to take images of it for the Variety Vista Site?

coop, the coin is BU MS-63/64 just has several bag marks. Quote: you might consider seeing if they would like to take images of it for the Variety Vista Site? I sent an email to Dr Wiles, will keep you posted on his response.

Update: Here is James Wiles's response. Quote:Mike: I would be happy to attribute your coins. The attribution fee for Kennedy halves is $12.00 per coin plus the return P&I ($8.00 per package). You may send up to 10 coins at a time. Thanks, James Wiles
