I found this penny a while ago and thought it was an old 1943 one and stuck it away. I just pulled out some of my coins and noticed it was from 1992. Any help would be appreciated

Looks like someone stripped the copper plating off the coin. It is had been unplated, it would not be dull looking and would have cartwheels.

Altered surface. On YouTube they have videos about the altering the color on cents.

@smetsala, first welcome to CCF. Second, with regard to your statement:

Thank you. I do plan on staying around and learning more and hopefully sharing more finds . I have quite a few more interesting finds that I'm looking for the right forum to share them in. I live in a rural community and have dug up a lot of old coin collections. I'm glad I ran across this group to hopefully learn more. Again, thank you all for your help and WELCOMES

Do you made an XRF for your coins?, I saw the post years before. In 1992 D, Denver do not strike coins for foreign countries. Same for 1991 and 1993. what I can say on those years 1991-93 no magnetic coins was strike by the US mint.

I will like to see more specs of your coin, like diameter, weight, thickness if possible. I do not like on this coin the flat rims, but I will not elaborate on till I do not have the specs and also I will go to see essay alternative metals studies for this period.

Please made your homework and I do mine.

If it were un-plated, I would expect to see a weaker strike and no zinc bubbles. It looks more like a poor attempt to plate it instead.
What is the weight of this coin?
