"I Have Not Yet Begun to Fight" - John Paul Jones - 1779

This may be my favorite medal in the whole series. The design fills the obverse, wasting no space, and the details on the two ships at war is flawless. Great medal.

The Lewis and Clark Expedition - 1804~1806

Another classic design that I like for its simplicity. This medal, along with the Daniel Boone medal, make me want to watch "The Revenant" and "Jeremiah Johnson". That was a tough life back then!

Mark Twain - 1835-1910

I grew up reading Mark Twain novels and short stories so I like pretty much anything that has his name on it. Heck, I remember going to the "Jumping Frog" bookstore in Hartford many years ago. (If you're a fan of Mark Twain you'll know whaty that means.) This medal does a great job capturing Twain and his characters.

"Old Ironsides" - 1812

This is another great medal and also features the popular nautical theme of a ship at war! And, once again, there's that incuse lettering I like! My photos just don't capture the relief or the detail on these medals - you should see it in person!

Panama Canal - 1904

This is a beautiful medal. It's hard to tell from the 2D images, but this one features a sunken relief. I also like the peaceful image of the ship making its way through a lock. It's a great moment in history.

OK, that's 21 down, 19 to go... I'm taking another break. Tomorrow I'll finish my uploads. Look forward to some medals featuring Robert Peary, Teddy Roosevelt, Walter Reed, etc. Good night all.

Patrick Henry

This medal is simple and straightforward - it's just Henry in a room giving an impassioned speech. It's hard to capture the significance of his words in an image but I think JDL did a good job here. And I like some of the finer details like the creases in the clothing and the lines of the hardwood floor.

Paul Revere's Midnight Ride - 1775

This is one of the best medals in the set. It shows Revere speeding toward Lexington and Concord on a galloping horse. That's the North Church in the background too. I can really feel the urgency in this image.

Peary Finds North Pole - 1909

This is another one of my favorites. Like I said before, I really like medals and coins where the design fills the space and this one does a great job. And the artist captured finer details like the texture of the clothing, and the snow and clouds. Wow.

The Pony Express - 1860

Another great medal! Look at the details here - the musculature in the horses, the clouds of dust, etc. This is a museum-quality piece and I'm very proud to own this one.

Robert E. Lee - 1862

This medal frustrates me - I can't really tell what Lee is doing, he looks awkward and the image doesn't convery a particular action. So it's not my favorite, but it has the Civil War theme and I know that's very popular. BTW: this medal has a ding in the rim - ouch!

Samuel F.B. Morse - 1836

Another top 10 contender here! This is a great design and I love anything to do with inventors and technological design. This medal honors Morse and his code that made the telegraph so useful. What hath God wrought, indeed!

Battle of San Juan Hill - 1898

I love this medal for two reasons. First, the design is filled with action and detail. I can hear them shout "Charge!" Second, the medal never mentions Roosevelt's full name. They just call him "Teddy" because the image is so iconic that he needs no introduction!
