I am calling this an elliptical clip, not an elliptical strike clip. Am I correct? There is reeding at both ends of the long axis and weight is 4.73g.

Awesome error coin! That type of Clip is very rare and not your average cup of tee. Prices are often very expensive for these error coins.

Definitely an elliptical clip, but I've seen graded ones labeled as "struck on an elliptical planchet". Really cool coin! How'd you get it?

THanks David and Tanman. I bought another mid-sized lot of error coins today. Spent much money on what seems like few coins. This actually was somewhat of a toss-in at the end of the negotiations for an extra $50.

I just have to grin and shake my head at some of the remarkable coins you find.

That's an incredible coin. Haven't seen a clip like that before. Congrats!

I think it is just a struck out of collar coin. I don't see anything clipped off the planchet. Just distorted because it wasn't in the collar.

Coop, Error coins aren't my sandbox but I find it hard to believe a coin that is 17% underweight and has reeding only on the ends of the long axis not to be some kind of elliptical clip.

I agree that it's a Elliptical Clip. You said it's underweight, so that confirms it.
