Hello! I'm new to the Forum, but I've had this quarter since 1986 when I worked in retail. It was in a roll of quarters I opened and emptied into my drawer. Is it a mint error? Should I have it graded? Many thanks!

Not quite sure what you are referring to when
you say "clay error" but it looks like your quarter
has been environmentaly toned with the high spots
starting to wear down from circulation exposing the nickel.
Just worth 25 cents.

That should have been "clad" layers- thank you for the edit, JimmyD, and thank you for your opinion. Much appreciated.

to CCF. We will need the weight for starters.I think I see copper paint, and where the paint has worn off I see clad.

It looks like someone has been experimenting with this coin, it looks plated and been that way for sometimes, there are spots with lighter, darker colors and spots without any, due to wear. But I could see why it caught your attention though! it's safe to let it go.

To CCF! Just a damaged coin unfortunately. It's Post Strike Damage ( PSD), and it's only worth face value.

Weight? Looks very shiny for a missing clad layer.

Note on this one: The missing layer on one side made the strike weak. Yours is showing a full strike. I also agree it is not a missing clad coin.
