I guess I am now a member of the Carson City Club, I just purchased my first CC Morgan. I decided to make this one my first because it was an overdate, and the price was right. I think this one ranks as the most expensive yet to get a home in my collection. I am sure that won't last long... I would appreciate some grade opinions on this one, the obverse is a bit baggy, but the reverse (I find myself saying this way to much about Morgans ) is pretty clean. I have provided a close up of the overdate too, it is pretty obvious. I know the CC VAM's don't have a big premium since they are already pretty pricey...but if I had to have one, one that is a bit different is better to me It is in the GSA holder with a box and the paperwork. Thanks for looking !

No takers huh...Well I bought it at MS-60, and I figure it might get a 61-62 if I were to get it graded, not sure about 63. Maybe the CC and the overdate will bump it to a 63 .

II, don't know the first thing about grading. None of my coins are graded and chances are never will be. Eye appeal is all I go by. Yours has it. I am curious about the dark spots on the upper reverse side. Is that just little snaps to hold the coin in place while you take a photo?

The obverse fields are not too bad but the cheek is nowhere near been "clean". The reverse fields are much nicer but numerous contact marks as well. My guess would be MS61.

The reverse looks like an easy '64. Unfortunately the long cut on Liberty's cheek should limit the grade to MS-62 IMO, unless the cut is more shallow than it appears in the photo. I have an 1884-CC DMPL Morgan with a long, shallow reeding mark on the cheek, yet ANACS still gave it an MS-65. Carson City Morgans usually get the benefit of the doubt from the TPGs, unless they are cleaned or damaged. Your coin is very frosty, with beautiful detail and no serious marks except for that darn cheek cut. The overdate is extremely cool and this coin should carry at least a $100 premium over a normal 1880-CC. This appears to be the 80/79 overdate with reverse of 1878, but I don't know the VAM number. 1880-CC coins are pretty scarce in the GSA holders and probably are worth an additional premium in that holder, so don't crack it out! If you want to have it graded, NGC will grade GSA dollars still in the holder. Quote: ...the price was right Can I ask what you paid for it?

I personally would grade MS-61/2 because of the reverse, but technically, it should get an MS-60 grade.

I think this is a VAM 4 - reverse of 78, no dash and no clash MorgansRmine, those spots are little pieces of plastic, it looks like the hole was not cut cleanly in the holder and a couple small chunks remained stuck to the edge of the hole. Quality control... Jaobler...I paid $450 for the coin. The most expensive buy price I have yet paid for a coin, but I think it is worth it. The plan is to keep all this stuff, so worth is relative at this point- by the time they might get sold, VAM pops will be known and my donkey tail won't be worth anything but melt..... I doubt I will ever get it graded, and that cheek hit is...medium deep Not real deep, but unfortunately not real shallow either. I am sure it would go better than 60, but not much.

I think you got an excellent deal for $450. Geez, you must know the shop owner or something!

Jaobler, I do know the shop owner I also know his wife , she does some paperwork for the shop. And their Grandson works for the shop too (along with a couple non-family members I know also ). I have boasted before about this shop in my Main Forum rants, It will be a very sad day when Clyde leaves the business. He sells everything at Greysheet bid, and buys everything 20% back. Of course key dates and such usually get 10% back or so, they sell much faster than your average date. Honest and Helpful to everyone that enters his establishment, truly a nice place to be ! Has never had to advertise in almost 30 years, word of mouth has brought him his fortune.
