OK.... I'm mostly happy with my Ike Dansco album. It could use a couple upgrades, no doubt. But I want to explore the slabs. Thinking a 69 set.
PCGS? ANACS?
Seems I can get most for about 25 bucks or less. Any gotchas?
TIA

Go with PCGS. The holder itself if FAR superior and if you decided to sell in the future selling ANACS moderns can be very difficult without just giving them away.
Are you just doing proofs or trying to do all of them? If you're doing all of them the 72 Type 2 will be the most expensive one in the set, everything else should be doable in that price range at the right grade

PCGS or NGC. Either one should have a fairly similar price point. Good Luck!

Funny. I have an Ike Dansco, long since completed, but started a slabbed set a couple years ago. Quote: Thinking a 69 set. For proof, yes, but never going to happen for the business strikes unless you have some really deep pockets. Mine range 64-67. Quote: Go with PCGS. I agree. I started this venture with one NGC and one PCGS, but settled on the PCGS since I like the holder better. I might consider going for round three in NGC after I complete the PCGS set. I never say never because 26 years ago when I completed the Ike Dansco I was never considering upgrades or a second set. By the way, if you want to see what I have so far, look in the sig.

I assume you are talking about just silver and proof versions. I do not think there are any clad ikes over 68, but maybe there are 1 or 2. I would not worry about slab as much as I would look at the coin. There are a lot of mis-graded PCGS holders out there in the proof versions. Most notably is the DCAM attribution. I see a lot that are CAM at best but labeled DCAM. Look for clean fields and heavy frosting on all devices including the earth. Most 1978 proof versions have the ideal look of what a proof ike should look like

If you go to a lot of coin shows you usually hear things like "Of course it cost more, it's in a PCGS slab".

As others have stated, go PCGS. Sounds like you are looking at proof in 69DCAM. Nice choice. I have a few myself. I have a raw complete set too.
Have fun!

Quote: I started this venture with one NGC and one PCGS, but settled on the PCGS since I like the holder better. Same. The clarity of the PCGS plastic is unmatched and I really don't like the white prongs on the NGC ones. Quote: I might consider going for round three in NGC after I complete the PCGS set. I'm going to take a wild guess and say every-time you finish a Ike set another one will magically start again

Jbuck- after the PCGS Set, start and finish an NGC set. After that, do an ANACS set with as many different slab types as possible. That will make for an interesting display. CelticKnot- I would also suggest PCGS, which will not come as a surprise to you guys. If you click on the two links in my signature you will suddenly realize that I need help.

Quote: ... I really don't like the white prongs on the NGC ones. Same here. Bedsides, they should only use it for coins with edge lettering. I see no reason to use on an Ike. Quote: I'm going to take a wild guess and say every-time you finish a Ike set another one will magically start again We shall see. I always wanted to do the high-end set to complement the Dansco, so two sets was always the plan. Three? Never say never. Quote: Jbuck- after the PCGS Set, start and finish an NGC set... Possibly. I am sure once the PCGS set is done I will want to get my two NGC Ikes some friends. Quote: After that, do an ANACS set with as many different slab types as possible. That will make for an interesting display. If I ever buy any ANACS Ikes, they will probably get cracked and put in a Capital Plastics holder. Sorry, I really not not like any of the ANACS holders.

I would think PCGS and NGC are pretty much interchangeable. ANACS, well why bother? There is SEGS and PCI if you want to hold your nose.
