Question for the forum - I hope this is in the right place....

I have a ton of exonumia - atually, about 10 pounds - just stuff I've picked up over the years like transit tokens, casino chips, medals, etc. I plan to keep a few that I really like (anything with silver in it) and liquidate the rest. I wonder, what is the market like for these items? I've checked ebay but there are so many many varieties that it's hard to make a direct comparison on a lot of items. I can't even guess what these might be worth if anything at all... Any advice?

FWIW: I can't imagine listing this lot on ebay - too many pieces...

First off bottom line is they are only worth what some one is willing to pay. Other than the CWT's and older medals from fairs and expo's and very few casino chips are worth big bucks. I can only speak for my self. ebay's prices are general dream prices that some body would like to get because the items is old and they equate old with money. Transit tokens, tax tokens, were produced in the multiple ten of millions, some in the 100 million range. Arcade tokens have a limited collector audience . as do some other types. All the tokens that I post in my thread on bulk buy tokens . I buy in bulk meaning depending on the number of tokens, type and somewhat condition. I payed $12.00 for 9 mint uncirc assorted subjects. Others I have paid $25.00 for 3/4 of a pound bag and $100.00 3 pounds plus. I'm lucky in a way as I'm the only general token collector in the area and the LCS buys them and bags them and sells them to me to move his stock. I also have a number pf members here that get them when they buy coin collections and in turn ask if I'm interested in any or all of them plus postage. I hope this may help, Since the collections of the older generations are of little interest to a lot of the youngerones today. I just finished up with attempting to dispose of my parents stuff and haven't even started on my mothers doll collection, salt and peper collections, Dinner bells and a couple of others.
I have enough postage for 6 life times as my father collected plate blocks and full sheets of stamps.
I can say their coin collection other than the halves and silver dollars. Was worth face value only, she had 35 penny books filled with common dates, Don't get me started on the worthless mint year sets. They would have better off putting the purchase price away for the grand kids since they are worth only a couple bucks each after the fact.
If you have any questions ask

@Circus - thanks for all the info... I appreciate the reality check! You're certainly right that "worth" is only what someone is willing to pay, and, yes, everything is made by the millions so nothing is rare.

The reason I asked about the value is that I like my collection of exonumia - especially the transit tokens - but I'm moving into a new corner of the hobby (advertising pieces embedded with coinage) and I want my exonumia to find a good home. I hate ebay anyway (long story) so that's out.

I guess I'll put my bag of goodies to my desk for now :(

FWIW: I started collecting coins from circulation many years ago, so I know that most of those wheat cents are worth exactly one cent...! I guess it's true for the exonumia too.
