After all the hassle of sending coins to US TPG's, insurance, expensive shipping and then very expensive grading fees, you'd think there would be a little bit better grading quality control. Makes me wonder if sometimes the summer students do the grading. Maybe they should use a Canadian version of Photograde as I think they need it. Sorry for the rant, but I find it totally unacceptable. Both graded VF20. Edited by doubleeagle59 02/15/2019 8:12 pm

Can you post the reverse of the 1898 please?

The 2nd one is F-15 at best and it's been cleaned/dipped as well..

I think 1871 is graded okay. Second unless reverse looks splendid maybe F15 at best?

The 1871 is right on for a VF-20. The 1898 should have graded VG-10, maybe F-12 Could have been a worse result!

I would grade the '98 VG-10 tops, and it will only bring that sort of money, so basically they stole your grading fees.

First is just barely a VF20. Second is VG10, F12 on a loose day.

Its NGC grading coins at their finest standards!
They do this probably to please the owner of the coins. They grade worst than me!

Quote: Sorry for the rant, but I find it totally unacceptable Maybe seeing net graded, problem coins in ICCS flips without comments will make you feel better. At least with NGC, one does have possible recourse... https://www.NGCcoin.com/coin-gradin...C-guarantee/

Oh my.
The 1871 looks spot on for grade. I can't tell from the photo, but is that the repunched "C" or a die chip inside the curve of the "C"? Nice coin, and tough in grades above F.
The 1898? Wow. That's just painful. I agree with the upthread VG-10-ish grades for this one.
