got some nickels from my mom ,that my dad pulled out ,they looked md or lds so just put them away , was just looking at them and seen a die crack on the chin then 8 more some are d mint , and look rpm . was looking for some input on them. I know there is no money ,but how the crack is in the same spot, looked like a show and tell.note coins are not all the same coin, and the d mint the face looks like a car wreck

You are correct on the coin being in LDS, it shows a lot of Die flows and DDD combined with MD.Heavy Die wear present on the profile and under the Chin.

rpm ?

I don't think so, mintmarks both look normal for VLDS dies.

No RPM. The mintmark just shows Die Deterioration Doubling.

Also,I do not think that is a die crack. I think it is part of the DDD issue.

okay but why is it on the d mint in the same spot as the p mint. there are 7 coins here not just 1 , all profile shoots and two d mint (rpm) shoots.

Great images. The dies are showing very strong VLDS and strong Machine Doubling. Note image #4. The Machine Doubling is showing sever metal movement on the face Eye, corner of cheek. So I feel the MD caused the metal movement on that edge of the jaw. I'd save it to compare with other examples you might find later on to see if this is the case. (sorry I'm the type who like confirmation with more examples) Image #12 looks like the same event on that coin also. At first I thought it was an image of the same coin, but looking at both, I realized it was a different coin. I've never seen a die crack on that area on a nickel ever.

You might compare mint mark locations? If they are different, then the coins are probably not from the same roll. The die states seem to be a bit to different on the mint mark areas and the bust areas. That is what I would do. Make side by sides of the mint mark areas.

The mint marks are in different locations, so they are not from the same dies. Neither are RPM. One is showing MD on left side and die wear on the right side.

Cookiemonster, these are not Die Cracks. These are what we call Die Cracks. Die Cracks are supposed to be raised above the surfaces slightly. http://cuds-on-coins.com/udc-5c/
