I would say MS63. The fields are pretty nice, but the cheek is a bit roughed up.

Too bright. Try taking without a flash or UN-natural light. I get my best pics with the natural daylight, no hazy or cloudy days, just straight sunlight going through a window. I've personally had serious headaches trying to get a good pic but I'm getting real close, I think. With the lighting you have, I'm seeing way too much I don't like on coin, bleaching too much out and making light items look bad. Not trying to hammer your pics, but just saying, I'm doing the same thing, it's a learning process.

I'm suspicious of this coin. Date numerals look off. Hair detail below the ear doesn't look normal. This is a multi-thousand dollar coin in MS grades. If real it is well worth certification. I wouldn't be comfortable buying a raw example. Hope I'm wrong!

The "CC" mint mark looks kinda funny.
In this day and age a raw (unslabbed) 1879-CC Morgan in BU condition is a rare commodity.
Any background history on this coin? Who, what, when and where might just add up to unbelievable!
I hope I'm wrong but as of right now I think it's fake.

Really suspicious about the position of the date and mm. Rims look funky too. Magnet test?

Never heard of a MS Morgan weighing in at 26.97g. That's too high.

Moose... There have been several high quality key date Morgan fakes show up here on the Forum the last few weeks. Two of those were 1884-S Morgan's in what appeared to be high uncirculated (unbelievable!) condition. They could probably fool the amateurs but seasoned collectors, along with experts at TPG services, would most likely catch them. Your 79-CC might possibly be from that same source. I asked previously about background information on your coin. Was it sourced locally? Was it bought off the internet? Was it from a long held or long time collection? Provenience might help. A raw high dollar coin like this suddenly appearing out of thin air does not make sense to me. Could it happen? Sure! Did it happen? Only you know. 99.9% of the Unc 79-CC's I've seen over the years have been in the 60 to 62 grade windows. Even the raw ones. The GSA hoard of only a few thousand 79-CC's is responsible for most of the BU coins coming into the market in the last 50 years. They were notoriously baggy from being carted across the country multiple times over a 100 year period. What makes your coin different is it seems to be too good to be true. I hope it's real but I have my doubts.

I will take it to a local dealer to have it check out. I cannot remember where I got it from. I have had it for a long time. I was just digging through some old boxes of coins and silver and came across it.

I just got through looking at mintmark positions on about 100 1879-CC Morgan dollars on the Heritage auctions "sold" website. Not one single 79-CC that I randomly looked at matched the mint mark position of your coin. The mint mark on genuine coins with the clear CC is skewed to the left of center between and above the D and the O of dollar while your coin's mint mark is skewed to the right of center. Until someone produces a coin with the same mm position as yours I now think your coin has a 99.9%+ chance of being a high quality counterfeit. I hope I'm proved wrong. Please keep us posted about what your local dealer says.
