Your pics uploaded fine. They should have been added to the reply you were making.

it was "minted" in China alright.... I suppose cast in China is the more accurate term.

I hate reading these threads. "which I know is rare" "had to take the risk" - my gosh. Tough lesson I guess. "usually take my scale" implies you bought this in person? If so, demand a refund or you'll call the cops, and make them destroy this piece of garbage.

I hope you didn't pay much for this fake. 1885 of which they only made five and they are proofs, this is not a proof, An S mintmark when none were made in San Francisco after 1878, dentils bad on both sides, weak lettering on the reverse, and it is from a type 1 obv and type 1 reverse. The type 1's were last used in 1876. Those are just the most obvious problems with the coin.

As long as uninformed people keep buying this stuff the counterfeiters will keep making it. Been that way for a couple of thousand years.

There is no 1885-S Trade dollar. All were proofs, and are very rare. Make sure to do your research before buying a coin.

On Trade dollars the scale is a useful tool, but it is not enough as many of the Chinese fakes are being issued with 90% silver. The best pratice on Trade dollars is to buy one in a TPG holder from a trusted dealer. Pick up a Red Book as there is a lot of good information about coins, but the price guide is high retail.

This "girl"'s other jobs are collecting money for the policeman's fund and finding people to assist with Nigerian bank accounts. Did she bat her eyelashes and give you a puppy dog face while telling you how much she needs the money?
Rest in Peace
