Bags and Rolls of Andrew Jackson Presidential $1 Coins Available August 14"Old Hickory" is the Seventh President Honored in the Multi-Year Program WASHINGTON - On August 14, 2008, the United States Mint will release a Presidential $1 Coin honoring Andrew Jackson, our Nation's seventh commander-in-chief. It is the seventh coin issued in the United States Mint's Presidential $1 Coin Program. The bags and rolls of Andrew Jackson Presidential $1 Coins, struck at the United States Mint facilities at Denver and Philadelphia, were produced for use in everyday financial transactions. The coins are available in 250-coin bags offered at $319.95 and in 25-coin rolls offered at $35.95. The obverse of this latest coin in the Presidential $1 Coin Program features United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart's rendition of "Old Hickory"- a nickname Andrew Jackson acquired during his service in the War of 1812. The reverse design, also by Everhart, is a dramatic interpretation of the Statue of Liberty, which is portrayed on all the Presidential $1 Coins. Incused on the coin's edge are the inscriptions "2008," "E Pluribus Unum," "In God We Trust" and the mint of origin. Packaging for the bags and rolls display the mint of origin, the monetary value of the contents ($25.00-rolls, $250.00-bags), and the official United States Mint logo. To order the Andrew Jackson Presidential $1 Coin Bags and Rolls, visit the United States Mint's secure Web site at www.usmint.gov or call 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). We make our feelings known on CCF! Eaglefoot, I know what you mean. I think the 3/4 portrait style does not lend itself well to low-relief coinage. High-relief medals perhaps, but not circulating coinage. I don't collect these dollars, but I'm curious to know how far this presidential series will continue. Through Lincoln perhaps, but there are many less distinguished presidents before that man.

Of course, it would take the literal Act of Congress to do so, since by law they must be made. I would hope that Congress has more pressing matters to attend to, but given the fact that they created this program as a circulation piece without giving it the proper teeth for success (eliminating the Dollar Bill), anything is possible. Sounds like a poll idea and new topic for discussion...

How long till we can buy them at face with free shipping?!?
Worse yet - how long before we see "colorized" examples in ads on TV (not by the mint to be clear on this).
Think I'll pass on these.

Jbuck--yes, great idea for a poll! I suppose it's only a matter of time before Nixon is on a coin, lol.

IF IT'S A "POLL" THAT DIRECTOR CHOY AND CONGRESS WILL READ......THEN I'LL PARTICIPATE IN IT !They need to do something to give them "teeth for success" as Jbuck says...... some kind of "change" needs to happen with the composition, the designs, or the mintage number........something...... or all of the above.....dunno, but this will just be the longest debacle in Mint history if they don't. It's just sooooooo like Congress to waste our money like this on an endeavor that will go nowhere and hurt the Govt. coffers at the same time !... .......with of course, 50 years from now, the end result being a worthless coin that nobody really wants and is out there in MS condition by the millions....(sorry, I mean BILLIONS !)..... Who exactly are the winners in this "Presidential Coin Series" endeavor ?Now, if they abolish the $1.00 bill in the next few years........then we have these Presidential dollars by the uber-billion to go out and spend for the transition I guess.......maybe that's their "future plan" ?... .. ...... They'll remove the "paper dollar" and these "coins" will already be "out there" and "in place" whether the public likes it or not !.........

Aside from all of the other complaints, another thing that bothers me is that there is no "precious metal" version of the Presidential dollars. The Statehood Quarters had silver proofs available. When the SHQ series finally ends, the silver proof sets will have only three silver coins in it. I know it would be rather pricey to have a gold Presidential dollar, just look at how much the spouse coins are. But I think it would have been easy to create a "mostly" silver dollar with a golden tinge for inclusion in the silver proof sets.

jbuck, 90% silver proof versions were proposed in the original legislation for the Presidential Dollars(the 2008 RedBook actually has the proofs listed since it went to press before the final version of the bill was written) but it was written out in committee for some reason, never really heard why it was excluded

Biokemist is right ! In fact, I remember posting on here asking where these were !!.....It was listed there in the RedBook and yet they weren't mentioned on the U.S. Mint website or ever again. I agree with Jbuck on this.......man.....they just "should've" done SOMETHING to energize these coins......whatever reasons they decided on to NOT do this, were surely realized to be wrong in hindsight by them.......surely !

I thought all 7070 albums were 19th and 20th century albums and since the Presidential dollars didn't come out until the 21st century I didn't think there would be a place for them, at least there isn't a place in mine for it
