Ok here's 2 1970-s, same mint,different looking dates.neither looks like a small date so why the difference in the 2?

Are you talking about the mint mark locations? If so they were hand punched into the dies until 1990, when there were then part of the design of the master die for each mint.

No, the bottom of the 7 goes below the zero 2 different lengths, I think on a small date it's the same height as the zero?if neither is a small date there are 2 different large date dies,same mint

"the bottom of the 7 goes below the zero 2 different lengths" - I don't see a discernible difference. Perhaps the proximity of the S causes an optical illusion?

Couldn't say specifically the number of working dies used in production that year. Can say the number was many times greater than two. Thanks, Doug.
