A friend contacted me and offered a few coins for sale. . I chose this one because I loved the look of it and because I had not seen the type. I would like to thank the friend for offering this one. Though my last few were acceptable regarding condition this one is very nice indeed. Just look at the nose on that portrait.

According to RIC coins of this issue were produced in the first few months of 82 and before the currency reform that would see the fineness of the silver denarii increase to almost 100%.

Domitian AR Denarius

Rev: Altar garlanded and lighted, TR POT COS VIII P P
RIC 94 (R) BMC 32, RSC 598
Purchased privately, March 1, 2019

My example from the same year has a similar irregular and prominent schnoz. It seems to me that as Domitian's reign progressed and people grew more and more terrified of him, he became something of a handsome devil on his coinage, the hump in his nose in particular being very much subdued.
