I would like to post a photograph of a 1938 D/S Buffalo Head Nickel. Can someone suggest a lens for my Canon Digital 8 Mega-pixel Rebel X/T camera which will yield the best possible resolution i.e. to show the minute details of the mint mark? Thanx for your time.

better bet by far would be a microscope and adaptor for your camera. About $200 either way you approach it and your results will be far better with the microscope

coppercoins is right a scope and adapter would yield best results.
However,if your budget is tight and you already have a camera and it has a macro function and you have a decent graphics program you can get some pretty good results.I do not know anything about your camera so I don't know if it has a macro function.
The shot below was taken with a Canon Coolpix 950 2.1 megapixel I bought off ebay a couple years ago for just this purpose. All shots hand held using macro.I went as cheap as I could,I knew once I finished taking the shots I wanted to display on my website, the camera would get stuck back till I needed it again.Been over a year since I used it last.

You might also check out the coin photograhy forum on this website.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the responses; I've found digital adapters for microscopes that will probably address my needs. Thanks again.

I use a microscope and a sony DSC-S50 digital camera, no adapter. If I want I can crop the image but most times don't. I suppose it could be better but it's good enough for who it's for, me.

Rockdude, do you use the QSZ 'scope? It looks like the pointer in mine. If that be the case, you can swap eyepieces to get rid of that distractor. I'd like a bit of info on the USB scope you showed. could you email me, at azbrushape@aol.com? Thanks,
Dick
