Was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this steel cent. The S mintmark appears as if something is under it.... or perhaps it is just a strike error. Any help appreciated.

Nice looking Obverse! CRH the wild?

Can we get a pic or the REVERSE? It will help in identification.

Thanks.

Not an error. Just damage on the mintmark from Post Strike Damage ( PSD).

Hmmmm, not sure. I'm thinking some type of hit PMD. Or maybe some type of struck through. The 4 looks flattened or hit with something as well. Besides that, a nice looking coin! ! Others will chime in here...

Great pictures BTW!!

Very Nice Coin!

Pics are terrific!

What do you use to take pics?

Hard to tell if it is a RPM...I am new and have a hard time identifying RPM varieties. But...

Lots of the Die cracks are lining up with Variety Vista RPM-007. Tell me what you think?

EDIT::: maybe one of the pros will take a second look at it and RPM-007 VV. But without that "S", does it matter?

I use a Canon T2i and a 100m Macro Canon Lens on a tri pod.
I have a single $25 LED light I bought on Amazon. It always works great on coins. The most expensive part of my setup is the lens.

Must be some correlation between the flatened 4, the funky MM and the two disturbed areas beneath the 9 and the 4.

Not a RPM. Looks like part of a grease issue, the gunk mixed into it. Note the SW area on the shoulder. Looks like something was pushed in that direction. But the reverse die is nice EDS die. Obverse is a LMDS (Late-Mid-Die-State)

A true beauty reverse. Probably the best die state for a Wheat cent.
