I only see the 1971S listed in cherrypickers for the peg leg but this 1972
D has the appearance of a squared lower left leg of the R. New to this! Appreciate any comments and links to help me learn.

That's pretty wild, whatever it is. Looks quadrupled. I recall seeing a specific name for this kind of MD but can't remember where. Anything on the other letters?

@kbbpll thank you for your reply. Here are some additional photos. most interesting to me was the harsh line behind Ike head! Does it look like a peg leg to you? Hard to get good photos.

It probably can happen. I've seen Machine Doubling happen on a Die Chip before.

The cause of peg legs is this. Die abrasion from over polishing. Another one of the things that someone gave a name to that is not a variety. It is a normal die that was over polished. Yours is an example of an over polished die with Machine Doubling. I collect die varieties. So to me they are an attempt to unload a regular coin for a premium. Several examples of these coins are searched for, but not by variety collectors.
